An Important Book
It was only last Friday that I came in Akademen over a book which aroused my interest: ”Utopia for Realists – and how we can get there” by Rutger Bregman.
I bought it, and two days later I had already read it. The reason was that this book (in contrast to Ha-Joon Chang’s ”23 Things …” which offers masses of ammunition for the – very necessary – fight against the neoliberal religion) provides quite a bit of material for the promotion of some ideas for the improvement of our political system, especially the ideas of (a) a free basic income for everybody, (b) a 15-hour working week, and (c) for the opening of political borders (the realization of the latter i think – humans being humans=primates – will at least take quite a bit of time …). Anyway, considering that an experiment with a free basic income is already being tried out in Finland, anybody who is in favour of such should try to get hold of the book and read it. An idea about the book can also be obtained by googling the author’s name.
Unluckily the copy I bought was the last one they had (further copies expected only after several weeks), but perhaps there are also other ways of getting hold of it. Remarkably, although the book has appeared in 2017, it is seemingly already available in Norwegian, Spanish, German, but not yet in Swedish or Finnish. I think i should pay Into Kustannus a visit to draw their attention to the book, and let’s see how soon Ny Tid feels able to provide a recension …
