Communal Election

Soon we shall have a communal election, and in spite of being a German citizen I shall be allowed to vote (after all, I have been paying my taxes here …). But how should I vote?

By habit and political tendency I should vote vänster, but unluckily there is the disquieting habit of Hbl to describe the situation as if it were a clear and agreed matter that it will be the party which gets most of the votes which will get the job of borgmästare. And it is also claimed that the Greens MIGHT become the biggest party. And if one remembers the up to now performance of the up-to-now biggest party (with Pajunen’s admonitions not to give anything to the Rumanian beggars, all those xenophobic tendencies, also Pajunen’s so very expensive dream of a railway tunnel to Tallinn) it feels actually VERY desirable that Kokoomus should not be the biggest party any more. Thus, as it seems to be the Greens who actually have a chance to overtake Kokoomus, one should obviously vote for them (just to make sure). Especially, as Pekka Sauri (who also was publicly entertaining the dream of that railway tunnel) is NOT their candidate.

Of course there is the question whether Hbl’s view of the situation is actually correct. And even if it should be, there is of course still the possibility of choosing from among the Green candidates somebody who might be most inclined to cooperate with the Left. Who that might be I have up to now no clear idea, so that I should welcome some helpful suggestions in this matter.
