Jag är er nya bloggare !
Uffe står för Ulf Sjögren, en ny bloggare på Ny Tid. Låt mig därför börja med att presentera mig själv och förklara varför jag valt Ny Tid som min bloggplats.
Jag kandiderar för Svenska folkpartiet i Esbo i årets kommunalval. Till min utbildning är jag ekonom från Hanken och min arbetsplatser har mestadels funnits i bank- och IT-branschen, även om det finns ett årigt inhopp som ombudsman på Svensk Ungdom. Men det var länge sen, eller exakt trettio år sedan dess.
Frågan som jag förväntar mig ska uppstå i läsarens huvud här är följande. Varför skriver en borgerlig kandidat på Ny tids bloggplats på tigern.fi som en gång i världen var Vänsterförbundet närstående?
Ny tid har utvecklats till den ledande tidskriften för för politik och kultur. Frigörelsen från direkta partipolitiska förbindelser har gjort den till ett attraktivt forum för många självständigt tänkande debattörer i Svenskfinland. Likaså bidrog övergången till ett månatligt tidskriftsformat med temanummer till att fördjupa materialet.
Men detta är inte den enda anledningen till mitt val.
Den andra anledningen är min totala besvikelse över den nuvarande regeringen. Den är till namnet borgerlig, men jag har sällan sett ett sådant angrepp på företagandets villkor och en medveten försvagning av Finlands band till USA, det västliga EU, de nordiska länderna och en nermontering av de svenska strukturerna i det offentliga Finland – domstolar, sjukhus från Ekenäs över Borgå till Vasa och undervisningen. Min största besvikelse är ju inte de för mig oacceptabla populisterna sannfinländarna – de har åtminstone delvis fått vad de beställt. Nej, min besvikelse gäller främst samlingspartiet som glömde svenskan just då de hade en finlandssvensk ledare. Och därefter centern, som även om det är den finska landsbygdens parti, ofta lyckats skaka fram politiker som vuxit sig till statsmän och åtminstone inte aktivt motarbetat delar av landet, helt i strid med sin devis om att hela Finland ska få leva.
Detta extraordinära läge kräver att vi glömmer de gamla motsättningarna som oftast handlade om bagateller. Jag vill hävda att vänsterförbundet i dag med en finlandssvensk ledning, socialdemokraterna, de gröna och SFP i dag står varandra närmare än någonsin förr.
Låt denna insikt bli vägledande för en ny politisk omorientering i Svenskfinland, Finland och Europa.
Nu måste populisterna visas ut ur regeringarna och kommunstyrelserna!

Och tack för din karakteristik av Ny Tid som ’den ledande tidskriften för för politik och kultur’ och ’ett attraktivt forum för många självständigt tänkande debattörer i Svenskfinland’. Tigerbloggen försöker skapa en community kring Ny Tid och kanske till och med emellanåt kunna fungera som idespruta, tankesmedja och bollplank åt Ny Tid. Så välkommen i gänget !
It is certainly not bad to have another debattör. And in Uffe’s piece there is already a point which I take as an invitation for a debate: I am certainly not any friend of the present Finnish government, but I should really wish for a detailed explanation why anybody should be very sorry because the present government seems to neglect Finland’s contacts to the USA. Because I think one could take just this development as a positive opportunity for the development of policies which are more reasonable in more than one respect.
a very short comment. I think we need to differentiate between the US and the current administration. I’m and will remain hostile to what is now going on. But I hope the US will wake up and one day stand by our side fighting for not only a free world but also a fairer one and a more ecological one. Perhaps dreaming, but let us hope for the best. And work for it!
Yes, certainly we hope that the US will wake up, etc. . But how probable is that? The USA are a two-party system, i.e. after every few terms of a Democrat president there tends to come a Republican government, and so on. And if we look at a number of Republican presidents of the past, well, there was Ronald Reagan with his Reaganomics (which very much helped to create the present state of the world, where meanwhile only 6 people own as much as the poorer half of mankind). Plus of course the aggressive interference of the USA with the politics of various smaller countries. There was George W. Bush, at whose time we had 9/11 and an official report about the event which is incompatible with even simple physics (the number of architects and engineers who demand a new and independent investigation has meanwhile grown to over 2.750 – more details available on request) , and then the planning, preparation and conduction of an unprovoked war of aggression against the Iraq (the NATO partners of the US were invited to join, which at least the UK did). Now we have Trump. Well, we can agree that some awakening would be highly desirable.
But probable it is not. In 1998 about 44% of the US adults believed that God created man ”pretty much in his present form at one time within the last 10,000 years” (a belief which was shared also by 31% of those who had gone through college), while another 39% believed that man developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but that God guided the process. The Darwinist position was held by 10%. Further, a bit more than 40 million voters were wishing that Israel should take over all of Palestine, because that would bring the second coming of Christ one step closer. Nor is it probable that these beliefs will change soon: the way the US school system is organized, teachers can very easily be fired while the parents’ councils tend to insist that the parents’ prejudices are respected and reproduced. Altogether, it will still for a long time be so that there is every four years quite some probability that somebody becomes president who by European standards is mentally sick, criminal, or both. And in order to be fair to the Republicans, the alternative to Trump would have been the remarkably warlike Hillary Clinton (also she clearly less than ideal). Thus, I tend to the opinion that one should bind oneself to the USA AS LITTLE AS EVER POSSIBLE. And on the basis of the observation that most AngloSaxon countries, such as the UK, Canada, Australia, and of course the US, will, once they are governed by a conservative party, deal with at least minorities and the environment in ways which can safely be called irresponsible, if not criminal, one should not either be too sad about the brexit. Already George Orwell was, in his 1984, indicating that the UK are not really a part of Eurasia …
