Idag såg jag en riktigt vacker bro som nyligen byggts i Rabat. Av någon anledning slog mej tanken: vilka förändringar skulle krävas i oss människor för att vi skulle bygga en bro över det löjligt minimala men fantastiskt stora avståndet mellan Afrika och Europa?

Presumably the Europeans would have to stop considering Europe as a fortress which has to be defended against the inflow of ”undesirable elements”. In addition somebody would have to come up with a realistic calculation how the price for building such a connection could be recovered ((by user fees?). As to the technical solution, one could (considering the rather uneven sea floor in the Straits of Gibraltar) think of a floating tunnel (anchored at a certain depth) like that between Honshu and Hokkaido in Japan.
